Description	:	Funeral services for Merle Milne, 82, of Creighton were held on Monday, August 5, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. Reverend Robert Hansen officiated the 10:30 a.m. service with interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton. Merle G. Milne, son of Frederick and Oril (Benton) Milne, was born October 14, 1919 on the family farm southwest of Creighton in the Millerboro community. Milne, son of Frederick and Oril (Benton) Milne, was born October 14, 1919 on the family farm southwest of Creighton in the Millerboro community. He attended Millerboro rural school District #23 through the eighth grade. He worked on several farms before enlisting in the Armed Forces on July 1, 1941. He was honorably discharged on October 16, 1945, having served at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe. He was awarded a Bronze Star for service beyond the call of duty and the American Defense Service ribbon. He married Doris Nielsen on September 28, 1952 at the rural Bethany Lutheran Church. They were the parents of three children, Dianne, Julie and Randy. Merle was a farmer and resided on his grandfather's homestead since 1958. In 2000 his family was awarded the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1966 and also a member of VFW Post 1151. Merle passed away August 2, 2002 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Doris; two daughters, Dianne of O'Neill and Julie Stara and husband, Steve of O'Neill; one son, Randy of Creighton; five grandchildren; a brother, David of Creighton; two sisters, Beulah Wilson of Texas and Donna Mae Foote of Omaha and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Amelia Young and Doris Wilkenson and brothers, Donald in infancy and Gerald.
