Description	:	"Merle L Janke passed away Oct 20, 1999 in Odessa. He was born June 7, 1932, in Odessa to Reuben and Edna (Heimbigner) Janke. Janke attended Odessa schools and was very active in all sports. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1950. Janke enlisted in the US Navy serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. While home on leave in 1953, he married Coleen Luiten on Sept 26, in Coeur d'Alene. Read More	"Merle L Janke passed away Oct 20, 1999 in Odessa. He was born June 7, 1932, in Odessa to Reuben and Edna (Heimbigner) Janke. Janke attended Odessa schools and was very active in all sports. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1950. Janke enlisted in the US Navy serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. While home on leave in 1953, he married Coleen Luiten on Sept 26, in Coeur d'Alene. After his discharge, he moved back to Odessa and was employed for many years with the Odessa Union Warehouse. Janke served as the assistant manager for 18 years. He then became a New York Life Insurance agent and was still actively involved serving his clients until his death. He is survived by his wife, Coleen, three daughters: Merleen and her husband Gunner Smith, Kerry and her husband Paul Scheller, both of Odessa, and Cindy Luiten, of Airway Heights. There are 9 grandchildren: Marci, Randi and Cam Smith; Brianna, Korianne, Kaci and Jesse Scheller, and Landon and Bryce Luiten. Janke has one brother, Allen and his wife Sue, of Ephrata and one sister, Delila Huff of Tacoma. There are numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Janke was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the Odessa Fire Dept and a former president and sec.-treas. of both the Odessa Chamber of Commerce and the Odessa Lions Club. He was also a member of the Odessa Golf Course Development Committee. Services for Janke were held on Monday, Oct 25 at the Christ Lutheran church with Pastor Scott Jurgens officiating.
