Young, son of Sidney B. and Muzetta Brown Young, was born June 4, 1905, on a farm west of Brock, Nebraska. He was one of two children. As a child he joined the Methodist church and remained a member of that church all his life. Young, son of Sidney B. and Muzetta Brown Young, was born June 4, 1905, on a farm west of Brock, Nebraska. He was one of two children. As a child he joined the Methodist church and remained a member of that church all his life. He received his elementary education in the Pete White rural school, graduated from Brock Brock High School, and attended for a time Wesleyan and the University of Nebraska. After completing his education he re-turned to his home community of Brock where he was to spend the remainder of his life. He was a farmer. He married Edna Thomas on September 8, 1933. They made their home in Brock all of their married life. Merle served on the Brock village board several years and was a member of the Brock Fire Depart- ment. Always interest in his community, Merle was particularly interested in the children and young people he knew. He is preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Edna, of Brock; one brother, Worth B. Young of Brock; one niece, Marta Smith of Tucumcari, New Mexico; and one nephew, Landon Young of Santa Barbara, California. He suffered a severe heart attack Friday afternoon, December 24, 1965. near his home in Brock. He was rushed to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, but died soon after his attack. He had reached the age of 60 years, 6 months and 20 days.
