Cooley of Nevada officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hilburn, accompanied by Mrs. John Picht at the piano sang "In the Garden" and "No Night There." Marley Anderson, Robert Couser, Stanley Egland, Lawrence Knaphus, George Larson and Willis New served as pall bearers. Obituary Merle Ray Moser, only son of Leo and Carrie Moser was born near Humeston, Iowa, on January 30, 1923. His death occurred on October 19, 1948 at Des Moines, Iowa, and resulted from poliomyelitis. Both Merle and his wife were stricken with the infection within a period of two days. They were taken to the Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines, where at the present time Mrs. Moser is making satisfactory improvements. When Merle was about 12 he moved with his parents to a farm near Gilbert, where they lived for about two years. Following this, located on a farm north of Fernald, where he grew to manhood. He attended the McCallsburg and Fernald schools, graduating from Fernald High School in 1940. He and his future wife graduating in the same class. On November 24, 1945, he was married to Virginia Toot. Two children came to the home, Steven Ray and Carol Sue. With his family, Merle has been living on a farm northwest of Fernald. Recently he had purchased a farm southeast of Nevada and this past summer he and his wife had spent considerable time and means, making improvements of the new place preparatory to its being their future home. Merle and his father have been closely associated in their farming interests. Not only the family found him one upon whom they could rely and depend, but neighbors and friends in general trusted his ability and judgment. He was highly industrious and this along with his other personal qualifications, it seemed that life presented to him an open door. He had been active in 4-H work, the Farm Bureau and the Junior Farm Bureau. Along with his wife he was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran church at Fernald and was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. Survivors Besides his wife, and two children, he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Moser of near Ames; four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Lang of near Ames, and Marjorie, Helen and Doris at home; many other relatives, and a host of friends.
