Mr. Van Fossen was a lifelong Marion and Linn County resident. He was employed as a machinist by the Fruehauf Trailer Company before retiring four years ago. Mrs. Carol Lown of Springville, Mrs. Joseph Catherine Jordan of Toddville, Miss Betty Bowers of Des Moines and Mrs. Thea Gorman of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Albert Van Fossen of Marion and Charles Bowers of Cedar Rapids; twelve grandchildren, Stanley, Marquerite and Ellen Jordan, Karen and Barry Van Fossen, Kaye Lown, Allan, Thomas, Karla and Greg Gorman, Michael and Diane Bowers; four sisters Mrs Willis Lena Whiting of Central City, Iowa Mrs. Merle Lillian Spencer of Kamiah, Idaho, Mrs. Julia Fash of Seattle, Washington and Marian Van Fossen of Iowa City. Preceding him in death were three brothers, Benjamin W in 1933, Harry H in 1950 and Walter E in 1946. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept 16, 1963 at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, Iowa. Conducted by Rev. Lloyd C. Kellams. Van Fossen, 657 Fifth Ave. after a long illness. Born Aug 16 1867 in Marion, the daughter of William W and Sophronia Harding Gray, she spent her entire life in Linn county except for four years in Idaho. she was married in Marion Feb. 23, 1886, to James R. Van Fossen, who died in 1923. She was a member of the Marion Methodist church, Comforter division, Women's Home Missionary society; the W.C.T.U and the W.S.A. club. Surviving are three sons, Harry H. and Walter E. of Marion Iowa and Merle R. van fossen of Toddville Iowa and four daughters, Mrs. Lena M. Whting, Palo, Iowa and Mrs. Lilliam J. Spencer, Spriit Lake, Ida.; Mrs. Julia A. Fash, Phoenix, Arizona., and Lieut. Marion A. Van fossen, Camp crowder, Mo. one son died in 1933. She is survived also by 19 grandchildren and seven great-gradchildren and seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Jane Gray of Rapid City, S D., and a brother, William W. Gray of Marion. A brother, George B Gray, died in 1941. Services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Yocom chapel by the Rev. Arthur W. Henke, Burial will be in the family lot in Oak Shade Cemetery, Friends may call at the chapel.
