Description	:	Merlin Daniel Hunt, 77, of Grand Island, formerly of Chapman, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Doug McHargue officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Mr. Hunt was born Aug. 19, 1936, near Clarks to Arthur Everett and Winifred Mae (Trivelpiece) Hunt. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Irene, of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Laurie Hunt of Aurora; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jay Colledge of Lehi, Utah. Others surviving include three grandchildren, Dylan Hunt and Laremy and Malanda Colledge; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sharon and Dan Atkinson of Bassett and Maxine Krieger of Atkinson; and brothers-in-law, Johnny Krieger of Spencer, LaVern and Anita Krieger, Don and Sandy Krieger, and Ron and Lorain Krieger, all of Bassett. He grew up in Merrick County and graduated from Central City High School in 1954. On Dec. 19, 1964, Merlin was united in marriage to Irene Krieger in Smith Center, Kan. They made their home in Chapman and Merlin was part owner of Grand Island Upholstery. He worked for Knight Brothers Construction for many years and then he went to work for the City of Grand Island until his retirement in 2007. Merlin and Irene moved to Grand Island in 2006. Merlin was a member of the Platt-Duetsche, United Methodist Church, and was a volunteer fireman for the Chapman Fire Department for many years and served on the Rural Fire Board. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, NASCAR racing and motorcycle riding. His greatest enjoyment came from the time he spent with his family and especially the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gwenda in 1984; brother, Eugene Hunt; sister, Estalene Michalski; three nieces and two nephews; parents-in-law, John and Florence Krieger; and two brothers-in-law, Harold and Francis Krieger.
