Description	:	son of Louis and Alice (Haugen) Heimerdinger Korean War veteran Merlin Louis Heimerdinger, 82, of rural Lawler, died Thursday, Oct. 11, of cancer. He was born July 27, 1930, northeast of Jerico on the family farm, son of Louis and Alice Haugen Heimerdinger. He married Doris Bronner Feb. 23, 1954. He attended school at Paris Township country school in Howard County. He farmed on his family's century farm. Mr. Heimerdinger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1953. He was born July 27, 1930, northeast of Jerico on the family farm, son of Louis and Alice Haugen Heimerdinger. He married Doris Bronner Feb. 23, 1954. He attended school at Paris Township country school in Howard County. He farmed on his family's century farm. Mr. Heimerdinger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1953. He was an infantry rifleman with the 2nd Division, 23rd Infantry Regiment, Fox Co., and was involved in battles on Old Badly, Arrowhead Ridge, T-Bone Hill, Three Sisters, and the Chowan Valley. While in Korea, he was a platoon leader and was security honor guard for President-Elect General Dwight Eisenhower on his tour of Korea. He was a member of Immanuel (Crane Creek) Lutheran Church, rural Jerico. Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Deborah (Stephen) Loes of Chardon, Ohio, Karen McGrath of New Hampton and Cheryl Edwards of West Branch; three sons, Gary (Susan) of Cresco, David (Debra) of New Hampton and Dale of Lawler; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: his parents; and his stepfather, Oliver Lee. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton. Military honors will take place in front of the church after services, with burial in Saude Lutheran Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, New Hampton, with an 8 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
