Description	:	Merlin Asche, 86, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, November 8, 2010, at his home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 12th at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus with Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Friday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church. Merlin was born May 20, 1924 on the family farm in Platte County, Nebraska, to Emil and Ida (Schutte) Asche. He was a life long member of Christ Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. Merlin attended Platte County District #23 School. On September 5, 1949, Merlin was united in marriage to Luetta Muth at Christ Lutheran Church. They farmed north of Columbus their entire married life. Merlin's passion for life was the farm and enjoyed helping bring the harvest in this fall. Merlin was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, member of the Christian Growth Bible study group, and served on the Board of Education.
