He died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. He was born Aug. 15, 1923, on a farm southwest of Wisner to William and Martha (Beerbohm)Horst. Horst, 84, of Beemer will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer. He died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. He was born Aug. 15, 1923, on a farm southwest of Wisner to William and Martha (Beerbohm)Horst. He attended school in rural Wisner. After school he farmed around the Wisner area. Later, he moved to Arizona, returning to Beemer in January 1950. He married Dorothy J. Edelman on April 30, 1950, in Hooper. He lived in Beemer the remainder of his life, owning and operating the Pastime Bar for 48 years. His wife preceded him in death in September 2005. During his years in Beemer, he was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was active in the Beemer Chamber of Commerce, serving as treasurer for 13 years. He was a Beemer School Board member for 10 years and was named "Retailer of the Year" in 1976 by the Nebraska Licensed Beverage Association, having served on its board of directors for a number of years. He was a member of the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation Board and was affiliated with Ak-Sar-Ben of Omaha from 1954-1985. Survivors include: two sons, Larry (and wife, Kathryn) Horst of Spring, Texas, and Randy (and wife, Fauneil) Horst of Beemer; a brother, Melvin Horst of Norfolk; a sister-in-law, Vivian clapham of Fremont; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He also was preceded in death by three sisters. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer with family present from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Beemer Cemetery.
