Description	:	Merlyn Glenn Muller, age 87, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Klaas K. and Annie (Eiklenborg) Muller, on January 7, 1928, at their home west of Dike, Iowa, in Grundy County. He graduated from Dike High School in 1946. On January 11, 1951, Merlyn joined the United States Army where he served in the Korean War for ten months. Read More	Merlyn Glenn Muller, age 87, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Klaas K. and Annie (Eiklenborg) Muller, on January 7, 1928, at their home west of Dike, Iowa, in Grundy County. He graduated from Dike High School in 1946. On January 11, 1951, Merlyn joined the United States Army where he served in the Korean War for ten months. He received an honorable discharge on October 12, 1952. On December 4, 1952, Merlyn was united in marriage with Kathryn Ann Kruger at Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington. After their marriage, they lived west of Cedar Falls for three years and Merlyn worked as a hired hand. The family moved to farms north of Aplington, south of Parkersburg, then back to north of Aplington, where Merlyn farmed. He retired in 1993. He and Kathryn moved to Aplington in 2001. Merlyn also worked as a grave digger, and at Lindeman Vault Company, Kesley Elevator, Mehmen Feed and Supply, Kesley Creamery, Ackley Food Processors and O’s Gold Seed Company. Merlyn was a member of First Reformed Church in Aplington and Aplington AMVET’s. He enjoyed fishing, collecting farm toys and going out to eat. Merlyn and Kathryn loved attending musical programs at churches, toy shows, and antiquing and well as going on bus tours after his retirement. Merlyn’s greatest joy was time spent with his family. Merlyn died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Andrew Muller; one sister Annie Betts and one brother-n-law, Alvin Stahl. Merlyn is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn; his three children, Nancy (Kelly) Elliott of Tuscon, Arizona, Randy (Jodie) Muller of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Cindy (Jim Witcraft) Mehmen of Waverly, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Mark (April) Elliott, Brian (Jennifer) Elliott, Jeremy (Charity) Mehmen, Jody (Joe) Fisher, Bradley Muller, Gregory Muller, Zachary (Diana) Muller, Jeffrey Muller; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Wilbur (Joy) Muller of Grundy Center, Iowa; one sister, Grace Stahl of Grundy Center and one brother-in-law, Richard Betts of Waterloo. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015, at the First Reformed Church, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery, both in Aplington. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the First Reformed Church in Aplington, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to family.
