Description	:	EAST DENNIS — Merriam "Mem" McGreenery of East Dennis, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at her home. She was born on July 3, 1914, in Barnstable Village. She was the daughter of the late Howard E. and Hester J. Barrus. She was married to the late William L. McGreenery for 53 years. The eldest of five children, Mem left home following graduation from Barnstable High School to attend New England Baptist Hospital, graduating as an RN. Read More	EAST DENNIS — Merriam "Mem" McGreenery of East Dennis, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at her home. She was born on July 3, 1914, in Barnstable Village. She was the daughter of the late Howard E. and Hester J. Barrus. She was married to the late William L. McGreenery for 53 years. The eldest of five children, Mem left home following graduation from Barnstable High School to attend New England Baptist Hospital, graduating as an RN. Soon thereafter she became one of the first airline stewardesses, flying for American Airlines. In 1943, she married William, a radio operator for Panagra Airlines. They were based in Lima, Peru, for six years, returning to the states with two children. Mem resumed her career, as a Junior High School nurse in the DC area, until William's position with the CIA allowed them to return to Lima, Peru, for another seven years. Upon retirement in 1972, Mem and William returned to Cape Cod, choosing to live near family and the Dennis beaches they had always loved. Mem was a member of Questers and enjoyed golf, bridge, bowling, yoga, and any activity that got her out and about, especially in the Cape Cod air. She is survived by two sisters, Elinor Del Grosso and her husband Peter, of College Park, MD, and Hester Moore in Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Tricia Sodt and her husband John, of Westerville, OH, and Jan Darcy of East Dennis; seven grandchildren, Brian and Jen Sodt of NC, Chris and April Sodt of MN, Cara Sodt of VA, Barbara Darcy and Mike Richards of MA, Kim Sodt of KY, Hester Darcy of DC, and Michelle and Tim Staniels of NY; and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Andrew and Zach Sodt of NC, Mia and Will Sodt of MN, and Madison Staniels of NY. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Dennis Fire Fighters Association, 883 Main Street, West Dennis, MA 02670. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010, at Dennis Union Church, Rte. 6A, East Dennis, MA. Published in the Cape Cod Times on 10/22/2010
