Description	:	Mertie McKern Cole, 90, widow of Jay B. Cole, presently of 105 Dutchess Road, Simpsonville, died May 24, 2005, at Allen Bennett Hospital. A native of Seneca, daughter of the late Luther Asbury and Belle Angeline Ledford McKern, she was a retired employee of Victor and Apalache Plants of J.P. Stevens, and was a member of Victor United Methodist Church. She was educated in Oconee County School District and the Opportunity School in Columbia. A native of Seneca, daughter of the late Luther Asbury and Belle Angeline Ledford McKern, she was a retired employee of Victor and Apalache Plants of J.P. Stevens, and was a member of Victor United Methodist Church. She was educated in Oconee County School District and the Opportunity School in Columbia. Mrs. Cole took great pride in making cakes for her children and grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all the friends for cards, calls and prayers during her illness. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Tom Cabaniss of Simpsonville, and Patsy and John Paget of Gainesville, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Connie Cole of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alan and Liana Cole of Greer; a sister, Nell Carnes of Seneca; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wood Mortuary, conducted by Rev. Les Gardner. Burial will follow in Graceland East Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Cabaniss, John Paget Jr., Jonathan Cabaniss, Todd Phillips, Aron Cole and Jacob Cole. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Wood Mortuary. The family is at the home of the daughter, Carolyn Cabaniss, 105 Dutchess Road, Simpsonville, S.C. Memorials may be made to Victor United Methodist Church, 1 Wilson Ave., Greer, SC 29651; or to Greer Community Ministries, P.O. Box 1373, Greer, SC 29652.
