Read More	Mervyn Leonard Johnson, 83, of Independence, Missouri went all the way home to his Lord and Savior September 23, 2013. Mervyn was born July 4, 1930 to Leonard J. and Florence A. Johnson in Lamoni, IA. There was a memorial service held on Thursday September 26, 2013 at The Church of Christ with The Elijah Message, The Assured Way of The Lord in Independence, Missouri. He was subsequently laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery in Lamoni, IA. He was preceded in death by brother Burton; sister Arlene and his son Mark T. Johnson. Mervyn is survived by his wife, Marianna Johnson; sister Leona Rountree, of Independence, Mo; brother Richard Johnson, of Lamoni, IA; brother Robert Johnson of Grain Valley, MO and 7 nieces and nephews. Mervyn served his country in the Korean War at age 21. Although he was a conscientious objector due to his religious beliefs he served on the front lines as a Combat Medic in 1951 and 1952. After which he came home to Lamoni, IA and met his loving wife of 57 years, Marianna Jones Johnson. They were married September 2, 1956 in Salt Lake City, UT. Mervyn and Marianna were blessed with a beloved child, Mark Timothy Johnson on March 24, 1957. Mervyn worked in Salt Lake City as a Letter Carrier for two years and then moved his family to Independence, Missouri where he continued his career with the Postal Service until he retired in 1990. Mervyn loved the outdoors and nature. He was an avid flower gardener and landscaper and was known to have over a thousand tulips in his front yard at one time. Mervyn also loved music and the fine arts, but his greatest love was The Church of Christ with the Elijah Message. He was born into The Church of Christ with the Elijah Message and served in The Holy Priesthood of God as a Deacon, Evangelist, Bishop, and Apostle from 1949 until his passing. Mervyn also served as the official Church Historian and had a profound knowledge of Restoration church history. *********************************************** Personal testimony of Leonard H. Draves, a close church friend of Mervyn Johnson: I have known Brother Mervyn Johnson since I was a young man. Mervyn was a True and Loving friend as well as a fellow Servant of The Lord. I remember one situation that took place on the front porch of my father's house. What ever I was complaining about to him, he taped me one the shoulder and told me to calm down Apostle Draves. I was at that time sixteen years of age. We laugh about it and continued talking. But that statement made me think a lot about The Church and The Mission we hold Sacred to The Lord. Brother Mervyn, as others, was Called out of the world and into The Kingdom of God to represent The Lord and His Church. Brother Mervyn was a True and Faithful Servant of The Lord. Quoting Hebrew 11:8, 'By Faith Abraham, when he was Called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, Obeyed: and he went out not knowing whither he went. He did not know where he was going. He did not have all the answers. He had The Word and he was Obedient to The Word.' If any thing, Mervyn was Obedient to The Word of God. On June 22nd of this year, Brother Mervyn Preached in this very room concerning 'The Everlasting Gospel'. I would like to quote two paragraphs of his Sermon. 'Today we find that we are often told that it makes no difference what a man's creed is so long as he acknowledges Christ. One class of Christians might admit to this who aspire to nothing more, but there are a few people on earth who desire something more tangible and whose right and privilege it is to have it. There is something tangible in the belief that this earth and everything pertaining to it will one day be redeemed from its fallen condition; that it will one day possess all its original grandeur and beauty, and that all whose names are found Registered in The LAMB'S BOOK OF LIFE will possess it for the space of one thousand years (Book of Revelation 20:6). God has Blessed us with the ability to think and reason, so surely we will have to render an account for the use, or abuse, of those Powers. Let us be consistent, and know that man cannot stick stakes or formulate conditions for God to come to. If we are so fortunate as to obtain Salvation, it will be by The Terms laid down in The Bible, The Record of The Nephites, and The Word of The Lord, brought to mankind by an angel.' Brother Mervyn had a wonderful Gift given to him by The Lord. He could remember the Historical Facts of the History of The Church of Christ. His Knowledge of The Word, both Present and Past, will be greatly missed. I Loved his Brother more than I can speak. In closing my part of remembering Brother Mervyn, I would like to read Romans 14:7-12, 'For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto The Lord; and whether we die, we die unto The Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are The Lord's. For to this end Christ both Died and Rose and Recived, that He might be Lord both of the dead and Living. But why dost thou judge thy Brother? Or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? For We shall all stand before The Judgment Seat of Christ. For it is written, As I Live, Saith The Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God, So then everyone of us shall give Account of himself to God'.
