Description	:	Meta Gollner's mother Dorothea died when she was six years old. She learned to cook and sew at a young age and was proficient at both. The last twenty or so years of her life she and Ollie lived in a small house on a large plot of land in the village of Palmyra, Nebraska. The bottom slope had a large vegetable garden and small orchard with grapes growing on the fence. Read More	Meta Gollner's mother Dorothea died when she was six years old. She learned to cook and sew at a young age and was proficient at both. The last twenty or so years of her life she and Ollie lived in a small house on a large plot of land in the village of Palmyra, Nebraska. The bottom slope had a large vegetable garden and small orchard with grapes growing on the fence. Ollie tended the vegetables and Meta did the flower garden that usually had red petunias and snapdragons located on the side of the house that faced the gravel road. Much of her time was spent cooking, preserving, canning and pickeling the garden produce, in addition to the sewing and mending and baking lots of pies and cookies. Meta Louise Gollner Spratt wrote this in her 50 year wedding anniversary memory book: Married in Lincoln March 23 – 1910 Spent the afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. C. J. McCarthy (Charlie and Ann) in the evening Emma and Jim O'Brien met us and we all went to a show at 10 ock P.M. they all went to the depot with us and we took the late train for back home in Eagle where we had left our team and Buggie in Eagle. In the morning we drove home and told my father that we were married. He was in bed and I said Dad, I hope you will forgive us, and we stayed and talked a little while and my Dad was happy and so were we, then we stopped at Dads Mother and stayed all nite, the next day we planted Potatoes and went to Elmwood and got some Groceries. Dad had gotten some furniture, Bed and matress were new. Kitchen stove and Kitchen table and chair and cubbard was all second handed, that was the way we started out. _____
