He passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Homestead Rehabilitation in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 57 years, 7 months, and 18 days. Michael started in school at District 18 rural Petersburg, Nebraska and attended various schools until he graduated from Clarksville High School, Clarksville, Iowa in 1981. Michael started in school at District 18 rural Petersburg, Nebraska and attended various schools until he graduated from Clarksville High School, Clarksville, Iowa in 1981. After high school, Michael joined the Army on July 8, 1981 and was honorably discharged on April 26, 1983 for medical reasons. He did basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and then was stationed in Italy where he was injured while on patrol. When he returned home, he started driving a delivery truck for Del Gould Meats in Lincoln, Nebraska. After several years, he signed on with Crete Carrier Corp and drove all over the United States. He used to love driving to New York, New York but hated driving to Florida. When he finally quit driving, he worked at Walmart in York and then at Super Foods in Geneva. He lived in several communities and finally settled in Geneva. Growing up, Michael was in Cub and Boys Scouts. He played baseball and wrestled in high school. He had a great sense of humor when he was younger; he could drive you crazy with it and usually did. He loved music and old TV shows. His favorite was Hogan's Heroes. He enjoyed talking about his days in the service with his step-father as they both had served in the Military. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, step-father and his grandparents. Michael is survived by his sisters, Connie (Billy) Lantis and Donna (Darby) Kelley; nieces and nephews Becky Nicholson, Shelley Nicholson, Matthew Lantis, Patrick Lantis, Brooklynn Kelley and numerous step-nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, cousins and his many friends. All his nieces and nephews were the light of his life. A memorial service for Michael was held on November 8, at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Geneva, with Pastor Judy Nuss officiating. The recorded selections, "I Saw the Light" and "Go Rest High" were played during the memorial service. Honorary pallbearers included Rebecca Nicholson, Shelley Nicholson, Matthew Lantis, Patrick Lantis and Brooklynn Kelley. Graveside services were held in the Geneva Public Cemetery following the memorial service with Military Honor Guard and the Geneva VFW Samuel J. Marsh Post No. 7102.
