Michael Alfred Neuroth, son of W.B. “Jim” and Roberta Helen (Hanson) Neuroth, was born February 7, 1943 in San Diego, CA. He was the oldest of 10 siblings. Mike attended school in Canton and Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington High School in 1960. After moving to Storm Lake, IA with his family, Mike joined the U.S. Navy. Mike served seven years aboard nuclear submarines, including the USS Abraham Lincoln submarine. He continued his schooling, which prepared him to work later in life as a nuclear health tech at various nuclear facilities around the U.S. Mike was known by many as “Captain Neutron”. He even designed a hat with his nickname and logo! Mike took pride in his Navy days and talked about it with whoever would listen, especially his submarine group. Mike was united in marriage with Marcia Doyle on June 26, 1971 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, IA. Mike and Marcia owned the Robo Carwash and Garbage Service in Storm Lake, IA. Mike and Marcia traveled and lived in many places in the U.S. before finally settling in Valley Springs, SD. On the weekends, Mike and Marica enjoyed going to muzzle shoots. Marica was taken to Heaven on September 17, 1986. Mike was a member of the Moose Lodge, the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, a blacksmith association and a submarine group. Mike was a devoted Catholic who went to Mass every Sunday. When he could not attend Mass, he listened to it on the radio on Sunday mornings. Mike’s favorite pastimes included hunting with his younger siblings and nephews, traveling (or driving around as Mike called it!), and spending time with friends and family across the United States, as he always mentioned in his yearly Christmas letters. Mike also looked forward to his yearly Thanksgiving dinner invite from his youngest brother, Dan and his family. Mike is survived by his nine siblings, Steve Neuroth and his wife, Sheila, Ft. Worth, TX, Patricia Parks Irlbeck, Manning, IA, Linda Burk and her husband, Bill, East Hartford, CT, Kevin Neuroth and his wife, Deanne, Storm Lake, IA, Grace Casson, Faribault, MN, Mark Neuroth and his wife, Tammi, Sioux Falls, SD, Robert Neuroth, Sioux Falls, SD, Dan Neuroth and his wife, Cindy, Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy Miller, Storm Lake, IA; two sisters-in-law, Mary Vermeer and her husband, John, Valley Springs, SD, Carol Otten, Bloomer, WI; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. In addition to his wife, Marcia, Mike was preceded in death by his parents, W.B. “Jim” and Helen (Hanson) Neuroth; five brothers-in-law, Dale Parks, Jim Irlbeck, Ric Casson, Gary Otten, Arlen Doyle; and a nephew, Patrick Parks.
