Michael Anthony Perkins was born on June 7, 1961, the son of John and Mary (Engelking) Perkins at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. He graduated from Eldora High School and attended Ellsworth Community College. Michael honorably served with the United States Air Force from 1981-1987 as a Biomedical Engineer. On August 22, 1982, he married Barbara Jean Burns at the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Mike was employed as a contract salesman at Builders First Source in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Mike was a devoted father and grandfather. His love for family kept him hopeful and pulled him through many illnesses. Mike loved a good joke. He was so happy that his children and grandchildren could tell him jokes as well. He loved to laugh and tease and be teased, never in a mean way. He was a very gentle person with an amazing big heart for people. Mike also loved magic. He was an amateur magician. He loved showing magic to his children, grandkids, and friends. Mike took part in the Steamboat Rock Fire Department, sang in the church choir, and he helped with the Sunday morning breakfast at the Steamboat Rock Boat Club when he was able. His biggest joy was taking his children and grandchildren fishing. Michael Perkins is survived by his wife, Barbara Perkins of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; children, Karen (Adam) Neubauer of Wichita, Kansas, and Kristine Perkins of Newton, Iowa; grandchildren, Coraline, Henry and Peter Neubauer; sisters, Tammy (Jim) Callaway and Terry Witherspoon and many nieces and nephews.
