Description	:	Michael was the son of Michael Bauer and Anna Hoffman. He immigrated in 1881. He married Anna Lampe on 26 Oct 1885 in Breda, IA. They were the parents of 8 children: Anna Gertrude (1888), George (1890), Francis Fred (1891), Veronica Mary (1893), and 4 children who died as infants. He married 2nd Johanna F Hastreiter in 1901. In his death another of the early settlers of Carroll county has been called to his reward, and many Carroll county friends will be grieved to learn of his passing. Mr. Bauer took to his bed, November 7. As he gradually grew worse his children were called to his bedside, Saturday, November 10, and remained until his death, November 13. His body was conveyed to the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Tigges of Carroll Thursday, November 15, and funeral services were conducted at St. Mary's church, Willey, Friday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev. Fr. Schemel officiating. Burial was made In the Catholic cemetery besides his first wife. The pall bearers were H.C. Venteicher, John Halbur, John Hugeback, John Hansman, Wm. Schoen and Joseph Danzer. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. Mike Bauer, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Keefe and son, Frank, Minnie Bauer, Lloyd Leonard, of Corning; Frank Bauer of Battle Creek, Mich.; Mrs. Veronica Long and son, Frank, of Wall, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. George Bauer and children, Carroll; Frank Shell, Boone; Mr. and Mrs. John Herbes, Sr., of Halbur; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Witte. Sr., of Carroll; Mr. and Mrs. Barney Korwes, Carroll; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Witte, Jr., Carroll. Mike Bauer was born at Pleinding, Huelshofen, Germany, May 16, 1865. At the age of 16 he left his home and sailed for America. He located at Carroll, la., and secured work as a farm hand. He continued to work as a farm helper until his marriage to Miss Anna Lampe at Breda, la., in 1885. They located on a farm near Arcadia. From there they moved to Carroll and in 1894 to Willey, Ia. To them were born 8 children: Anna, George, Frank, Veronica, and four children, who died in Infancy. His wife preceded him in death, dying in 1900. In 1901 he was married to Johanna Hastreiter. Two children, Hilda and Minnie, were born to them. In 1905 Mr. and Mrs. Bauer and family moved to Corning. He is survived by his widow and six children: Mrs. Anna Tigges, of Carroll, George of Carroll; Frank of Battle Creek, Mich.; Mrs. Veronica Long of Wall, S.D.; Mrs. Hilda Keefe of Corning and Minnie, at home. He Is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and a great grandchild; two brothers, John of Willey and Max of St. Louis. Mo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Witte of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. John Herbes of Halbur.
