Description	:	Michael Bauer was born in a province in Bavaria, Germany, on September 23, 1857 and died at his home in Creighton, Nebr. on December 23, 1929 at the age of 72 years and 3 months. At the age of 15, he came to the United States and located at Peru, Ill. In that city he worked in the coal mines, ships and also as a teamster and any line of work he could secure. Read More	Michael Bauer was born in a province in Bavaria, Germany, on September 23, 1857 and died at his home in Creighton, Nebr. on December 23, 1929 at the age of 72 years and 3 months. At the age of 15, he came to the United States and located at Peru, Ill. In that city he worked in the coal mines, ships and also as a teamster and any line of work he could secure. On May 19, 1878 he was united in marriage to Mary Joseck. To this union eight children were born, four sons and four daughters, one daughter dying in infancy. After residing at Peru for a period of two and one-half years, they moved to Harlan, Iowa and lived on a farm near that city until the year of 1893, when they came to Knox County. For the past thirty-six years, Mr. Bauer and his family have lived on farms near Creighton and Venus and two years ago removed to Creighton and have been living on a small tract north of town. The deceased was a hard working man and was held in the highest esteem by his every acquaintance in this locality and was honest, industrious and energetic. He was one of the early pioneers and passed through much of Nebraska's history and met all the discouragements and hardships incidental to pioneer life. Mr. Bauer leaves to mourn his wife, four sons: Michael Jr. of Venus; Joseph of Opportunity; Xavier of Royal; Henry of O'Neill; three daughters, Mrs. Chris Schuster of Creighton; Mrs. Carrie Willenbring of Fordyce; Mrs. Mary Pruss, Orchard; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Haver of Hartington; Mrs. Joe Kobold of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Albert Gloetzel, Royal, Iowa and twenty-seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday morning at the St. Ludger church. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Father Windolph and he was assisted in the services by Father Borgen of Paxton, S.D. The church was filled with relatives and friends, who had come to pay their final tribute to a neighbor and friend. Fathers Windolph and Borgan delivered very fitting eulogies to the life of this pioneer. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery. ...The Creighton News Dec 1929
