Oelwein Daily Register Friday 23 Dec 1938 Death of Mr. Lucey The community was shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Michael Lucey. He was the youngest son of Johannah Wiley and Michael Lucey. He was born on a farm northeast of Edgewood on March 15, 1908. His early education was received in the rural school near his home. He graduated from the Edgewood High School in 1925. His family lived on this farm near Edgewood over thirty years and about five years ago moved near Stanley, Iowa. Michael farmed with his brother Frank, until his marriage to Miss Helen Bray on November 25, 1936. After their marriage they made their home northeast of Lamont. He passed away at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein on Wednesday. December 14, 1938. He was modest, genial and fun loving and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. Those left to mourn his untimely passing are his wife, his mother Mrs. M. F. Lucey, two brothers John and Frank, and five sisters Mrs. Matt McCabe (Elizabeth), Mrs. Lloyd Funk (Anna), Mrs. John Downey (Mary), and Josie and Kathryn at home. His father preceded him in death May 1937. The funeral was held from the home to the Catholic church in Lamont at 9:30 Saturday forenoon, Requiem Mass was sung by Father Weihl of Lamont. Burial was in Littleport cemetery. Melvin Bray, Francis Brady, John Wiley, Leonard Wiley, Harvey Colton and Howard Scofield acted as pall-bearers.
