Preceded in death by millions of fine Irishmen, he joined God, St. Patrick and St. Joseph on the sunny side of the Golden Gate on a cloudy day in Norfolk, when pulmonary fibrosis got the best of Blarny Murphy. Murph was born in Ottawa, Kan., to his parents, Howard and Eileen (Strickler) Murphy, on March 18, 1940, a day late to celebrate St. Pat's Day in 1940. Murph married the love of his life, Sandra Klawonn, on April 23, 1960, at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk. The couple was blessed with two great children, Patrick and Cami Jo. One of his many achievements was becoming an Eagle Scout, Ad Altare Dei. Murph attended Norfolk Junior College and graduated from Wayne State College with a business degree. He joined Ralston Purina Company at Checkerboard Square in St. Louis, Mo., as an advertising and sales training copywriter. Then, Murph joined Hubbard Milling Company in Mankato, Minn., as a training director for seven years. He returned home to help his mother-in-law, Milda Klawonn, run the Harbor Bar. Murph tried to get fired for 22 years only to be retired as head bartender and bottle washer. Over the years, Murph was known as the "World's Largest Lephrechaun," and he carried the flag of Ireland, leading the St. Patrick's Day Parade. In Murph's spare time, he became a landlord and managed his mother-in-law's rentals. Murph's true passion was spending time with friends hunting at the "duck puddle" and flyfishing in the Roaring Fork River while vacationing in Colorado. Murph is survived by his spouse of 57 years; son Patrick and his spouse, Lesa of Edgewater, Md.; a daughter, Cami and her spouse, Ken Story of Norfolk; his grandchildren, Kiley Story (boyfriend Shaun Jacobs) of Marina Del Ray, Calif., Jesse Story of Denver, Colo., and Macie Murphy of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Ervin and Milda Klawonn; a brother-in-law, Doug Busskohl; and a niece, Tiffany Lynn.
