He died of a sudden heart attack at his home in Fort Collins, Colo. He was born Oct. 2, 1958, in Salina, Kan., to Paul Alexander and Gladys Sexton Alexander Olson and his big sister, Jeanette.He spent the first 50 years of his wonderful life in central Kansas, which gave him his incredible work ethic and love of others. He attended Chapman High School and the University of Kansas.Those who knew him best understood the amazing blend of masculinity and sensitivity with which he graced the world. They understood his love of brilliant green motorcycles and deep love for his family. He was so proud that his nieces and nephews graced him with their love and acceptance and couldn’t wait to see him. Mike was at his best when he was serving others, whether it was work or play. He was always there to offer an honest word of encouragement. The dozens of young adults who came to his home to spend time with his family were welcomed with big hugs and his silly sense of humor.As a man of fine character and quality, he always believed "we always find time to do things right the second time so just do it right the first time." He never met a stranger and was a magnet to children, pets and those in need. Since 2005, Michael had been an active volunteer with the Dental Missions of Mercy around the country, with his special emphasis on the Colorado Mission of Mercy.As a member of the original "MOM squad" from Kansas, he came to Colorado to serve each year since 2007, and met the love of his life, Annette, at a COMOM, doing what he did best, serving others. He shared the story of their great love with everyone he met, how they "walked the line" and fell in love. Their love was a testament to who they were. They shared a great love of life and serving others. He loved serving his church, Faith Evangelical Free Church, where he was an usher and a substitute preschool Sunday School helper. The children loved playing human bowling with Mr. Michael.After 35 years in the construction business, he became a dental equipment technician for Henry Schein Dental. He loved his work and co-workers. He is survived by his wife, Annette Zacharias, and five children, Jerrad Alexander, of Hutchinson, Kan., Eric (Nicole) Zacharias, of San Jacinto, Calif., Paige Alexander, of Wichita, Kan., Madison Alexander, of Hutchinson, and Mackenzie Piper, of Fort Collins; his mother, Gladys Olson (Lloyd Venard); sister, Jeanette Alexander (Dana) Boucher, of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters-in-law, Sherry (David) Rumley and Stephanie Zacharias, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother-in-law, Paul Zacharias, of Corpus Christi; and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Alexander; brother, Tommy Alexander; and nephew, Oliver Rumley.Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Allnutt Funeral Home in Fort Collins.
