Joyce, Resident of Burdette for Past 51 Years, Succumbs Friday at Home of Son in Redfield The community was shocked on Friday when it was learned that Michael E. Joyce, a pioneer citizen livingon a farm near Burdette, had passed away at the home of his son, Edward Joyce, in this city. Mr. Joyce was called to Redfield by the serious illness of his brother, Frank, and was stricken with pneumonia, later suffering a heart attack. The deceased was born at Clinton, Massachusetts on July 23, 1855, and at the time of his death was 79 years, 4 months and 21 days old. On February 22, 1887 he was married to Miss Rose Ann McDonald at Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. His wife preceded him in death two years ago. He was a pioneer blacksmith of Burdette where he has been a resident for the past fifty-one years and could relate many interesting events that happened there in the early days. He is survived by nine children, five daughters and four sons: Gertrude, Grace and Genevieve of Burdette, Sister Frances Therese of Miles City, Montana, Sister M. Thomas of Bridgewater, Donald of Rockham, Gene of New Rockford, North Dakota, Mark of Burdette and Edward of this city. Mr. Joyce was a fervent Catholic and reared his large family in the faith of that church. funeral services were held Monday morning at nine-thirty o'clock from St. Bernard's Catholic church at Redfield, with Rev. Fr. George MacConnachie celebrating the mass. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. The Press Joins with many friends in offering sympathy to the bereaved family in this great sorrow.
