Description	:	The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia Friday, August 25, 1888: "A misplaced switch near Morrison's grave yard on the Cumberland and Pennsylvania R.R. caused freight engine No. 10 to leave the track and turn over on its side on Monday morning. Engineer Michael Flanigan was caught by the reverse bar and held under the engine for some time, and sustained very severe bruises about the body. As soon as he could be gotten from under the wreck he was taken to his home in Westernport and medical assistance rendered. Mr. Flanigan is 65 years of age and... Read More	The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia Friday, August 25, 1888: "A misplaced switch near Morrison's grave yard on the Cumberland and Pennsylvania R.R. caused freight engine No. 10 to leave the track and turn over on its side on Monday morning. Engineer Michael Flanigan was caught by the reverse bar and held under the engine for some time, and sustained very severe bruises about the body. As soon as he could be gotten from under the wreck he was taken to his home in Westernport and medical assistance rendered. Mr. Flanigan is 65 years of age and one of the oldest employees on the road. Fireman Henry Bittle jumped from the engine and escaped injury. Master mechanic John H. Strain was on the engine at the time of the accident and escaped with a cut hand and sprained leg. The accident was the result of some track men running a hand car into a siding and forgetting to close the switch. The B & O road sent an engine and cars to the wreck and transferred the passengers on the noon train." The Herald, Piedmont, West Virginia Friday, September 1, 1888: "Mr. Michael Flannagan who was hurt on the C & P road, an account of which appeared last week, died from his injuries, which proved much more serious than was at first supposed, Tuesday evening. He was 65 years of age and highly respected. The funeral which was largely attended, took place Thursday evening."
