Read More	In memory of Michael Peters, 06/30/1945 - 06/27/2014 Michael was born on June 30, 1945 to Harvey Victor Peters and Carol Childs Haner in New York City. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture in 1968 from the University of Arizona, in Tucson, Arizona. Michael completed a Master of Architecture in 1971 from Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Michael was an architect and professor. Michael was a licensed architect in the State of Texas and State of Massachusetts. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, Texas Society of Architects, AIA Lubbock Chapter, and the National Council of Architectural Boards (NCARB). Michael was the principal architect of his own private practice, Michael Peters Architects, since 1985. He worked with commercial, institutional and recreational architecture and was an expert in urban design and planning. He was recognized as a Historic Preservation Architect by the Texas Historical Commission and completed master plans for historic buildings and sites in several West Texas counties. He has worked extensively with many architects, contractors and professionals throughout the years. Some of his work includes: Historic Preservation & Rehabilitation: Roberts County Courthouse (master plan and Texas Historic Commission Restoration Grant); Clark Hotel (Van Horn, TX); Los Corralitos Ranch House (Ranching Heritage Center Lubbock, TX). Commercial & Institutional Architecture: Youth Outreach Center (Link Ministries); Raintree Christian Church Addition (Lubbock, TX); Brogan Heart Center; Mullin Hoard & Brown Law Offices; Science Spectrum & Omnimax Theater; Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages (SWBYP) Offices; Crescent Center Office Building, Texas Water Rampage Theme Park. Planning & Feasibility Studies: Howard College Master Plan and Broadway Corridor Master Plan. Michael also served on community boards and commissions involving the design of the environment over the years. Michael received numerous awards and recognition for his architecture and design works. Michael began his 35 years as a faculty member in the College of Architecture at Texas Tech University in 1979. He achieved the rank of Professor in 1999 and served in administrative positions as Associate Dean of External Programs (2009-2013); Associate Dean for Academics (2007-2009); and Chair of Instruction (2004-2007). Michael was an active researcher and published papers on urban design, historic preservation and the design of the environment. He has taught hundreds of architecture students over the span of his career at Texas Tech University. Other teaching appointments included the La Universidad De Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico in 1990 and 1991 and the Boston Architectural Center, Boston, Massachusetts (1973-1978). He is survived by his wife, Donna of Lubbock and son Matthew of Ogden, Utah; other children include Andrew and Melissa Lawver and granddaughter Autumn of Bedford, Texas and Kaitlin Lawver of Lubbock; a sister, Rebecca Peters of Tucson, Arizona, and a niece, Leah Buise and husband Dave of East Bourne, England. He is preceded in death by both parents, Harvey and Carol Peters. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to your favorite charity or service organization or individuals can make contributions to the Michael and Donna Peters Scholarship Fund at Texas Tech University, College of Architecture, Box 42091, Lubbock, Texas 79409. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the many doctors and medical staff personnel who provided care: Dr. Rodolfo Martinez and the staff at Lubbock Cancer Center; Dr. Kelly Kensing and Dr. Kye Lear for their many years of care; Dr. Nizar Tannir and the M.D. Anderson medical personnel; and to Dr. Jeremy Brown and the professionals from Hospice of Lubbock.
