Michael Halpin was born in County Clare, Ireland on Sept. 20, 1860. When but two years of age he came with his parents to this country, the family locating in Columbia county, New York. Later he came to Chariton, Iowa and forty-six years ago he was married to Elizabeth McDonald, of Melrose. For forty-seven years Mr. Halpin was in the service of the C. B. & Q. Railway, and for thirty-seven years he served as an engineer. He was retired about ten years ago on account of an injury. He and family lived in Ottumwa for many years but moved back to Chariton about twenty years ago. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Halpin, and one son, Edward Halpin, of Ottumwa; and four daughters, Mrs. Sara Frank, of Chariton; Mrs. Mary Ownby, of Ames; Mrs. Margaret O'Connor, of Fort Dodge; and Mrs. Elizabeth Gustafson, of Des Moines; also ten grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Pearson, of Chicago, Ill., and one brother, Edward Halpin, of Detroit, Mich.
