Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5-7 PM at the St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 6:30PM. Visitation will continue on Monday 1 hour prior to the funeral Mass which will begin at 2:00 PM in the St. Bernard's Catholic Church with The Reverend Christopher Hughes officiating. Read More	Michael James "Mike" Huber, age 83, Redfield, formerly of Doland, died in the Redfield Community Memorial Hospital with family at his side on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2014. Burial with full military rites will follow in the Church cemetery at Redfield. He was born on November 14, 1930 at Herried, SD, the son of Michael M. and Madge (Hunt) Huber. He grew to adulthood in the Yankton/Volin area of South Dakota in a family of eight children during the Dirty-Thirties. In January of 1951 he began serving his country in the United States Marine Corps and served until an honorable discharge in 1954. It was during the Korean War and his duty was mainly hauling ammunition to the front lines. On September 28, 1959 he was united in marriage to Joann Carr at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. They lived in the Tulare/Doland areas for many years and just recently moved to Redfield. Mike enjoyed many years of farm work and then ran the Spink County road maintainer out of Doland for many years. He loved children, but especially his own and second to none were his grandchildren, even sometimes babysitting after his retirement. Mike was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Doland until its closing and then attended Mass in Clark and Redfield. He was a member of the American Legion at Doland and the VFW at Redfield. Mike was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and has served as Grand Knight the year that Cardinal Carberry came to dedicate the statue of Mary at St. Bernard's. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, fishing, working puzzles, and visits with family and friends, something he could even do with strangers while his wife was shopping! Preceding him in death were his parents, a grandson Gunnar, siblings, Fran Nelson, Mary Jane De Ford, Joseph, Kenneth, Leo, and Herman Huber. Also preceding were in-laws, Leslie and Ida Carr. Grateful for having shared in his life and left to fondly remember and celebrate his life is his wife of over 54 years, Joann Huber of Redfield, daughters, Debey (Doug) Senska of Forestburg, SD, Marcy (Dan) Barrett of Baxter, MN and Cathy (Eugene) Loken of Cottonwood, MN and a son, Jesse (Tara) Huber of Crocker, SD. He leaves 5 grandchildren, Dianna Burger, Andrew & Shayna Loken and Dain & Madison Barrett and was a proud great-grandpa to Jayden, Luke, Colt, Maelyn, and Mackenna. Of the family of eight, a sister, Marge Lusk of Highmore survives. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Jan Huber of Estelline, SD, Lana Huber of Albuquerque, NM and Veloris Huber of Elk Point, SD and in-laws, Edith (Gerard) Gabriel, Janet Marsh, Frank (Sarah) Carr, Clinton (Audrey) Carr and a host of nieces and nephews.
