Description	:	Michael J. McAuliffe, 53, Sterling, died at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh on Wednesday evening (9/17/08). He was born on March 3, 1955 at Tecumseh and was baptized, confirmed and received his first communion at St. Marys Catholic Church of St. Mary where he was a life-long member. McAuliffe, 53, Sterling, died at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh on Wednesday evening (9/17/08). He was born on March 3, 1955 at Tecumseh and was baptized, confirmed and received his first communion at St. Marys Catholic Church of St. Mary where he was a life-long member. He attended St. Mary Catholic School and he graduated from Sterling High School in 1973. He then obtained an associate degree in electrical technology from SCC at Milford. He was married to Jill M. Heusman on October 4, 1975 at St. Marys Catholic Church at St. Mary and they made their home in Sterling. He had been employed at White Electric/CED in Lincoln since 1975. On June 18, 1978 he was injured in a swimming accident. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church of St. Mary. He loved serving on the Sterling School Board since 1991 where he had been treasurer and was president since 1994. He was extremely proud of the Boards many accomplishments. He was also a member of Sterling School Foundation and Sterling Community association. He enjoyed collecting Sterling memorabilia, school sports, trivia, playing cards, movies, food, attending auctions, visiting with family and friends and especially being a grandpa. Survivors include his wife, Jill, Sterling, son, Ryan McAuliffe and wife, Becky; Sterling; grandson, Jack and Callen McAuliffe; sisters, Denise Horstman, Sterling, Joni Rathe and husband, Joe, Filley; Kathy Schmit and husband, Don, Burr; Connie Walters and husband, Ronnie, Sterling and Karen Lempka and husband, Chris, St. Mary; brothers, Terry McAuliffe and wife, Tammy, St. Mary; and Larry McAuliffe, Sterling, many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law; Bob Heusman and wife, Barb, Sterling; parents-in-law, Elvin and LaVerta Emshoff, Syracuse; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin J. and Donna L. Schutz McAuliffe; an infant brother, Patrick; one brother-in-law, Jim Horstman; father-in-law, Marvin Heusman; step-father-in-law, Don Van Winkle; and nephew, Jeffrey Rathe. Mass of Christian Burial 2:30 p.m. Saturday (9/20/08) at Mt. Marys Catholic Church of St. Mary with Father Tom Dunavan officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling. A Scriptural Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday (9/19/08) at St. Mary Catholic Church of St. Mary. A memorial has been established to the familys choice with the Zink-Fox Funeral Home in charge. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling until 5 p.m. Friday (9/18/08); and at the church one hour preceding the service on Saturday.
