Mr. Collins was born in Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland, September 29, 1862. He had been a resident of Fort Madison 53 years. COLLINS PASSES AWAY AT HOME HERE. M. J. (Mike) Collins,79, former mayor of Fort Madison died at his home, 793 Avenue 11, early today following an illness of several months. Mr. Collins was born in Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland, September 29, 1862. He had been a resident of Fort Madison 53 years. He came to Fort Madison in 18__ as chief clerk of the store department of the Santa Fe railroad from which he retired in 19_1, to open a grocery store here. Mayor Four Years Mr. Collins served as a member of the city council about eight years and served as mayor of this city from 1921 to 1924. It was during his term of office as mayor that the first large street paving program was carried out by a muncipal (sic) administration. After retiring from office as myaor (sic), Mr. Collins became director of a local securities company. Mr. Collins was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Collins, and one daughter, Mrs. John A. Cooney. Funeral Monday Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. B. J. Decker will officiate and burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery. The body will be removed 9 a.m. Sunday from the Weisbruch Funeral Home to the family residence where Rosary services wi (sic) be held at 7 o'clock Sunday evening.
