From The Lethbridge Herald, Thursday, August 21, 1958, via the newspaperarchive.com website: 'Pass Pioneer Rites Friday at St. Anne's BLAIRMORE (CNP Bureau) -- Michael Kropinak, long-time resident of the Crow's Nest Pass, died in Rosehaven Home in Camrose Tuesday following a brief illness. Mr. Kropinek was born in Czechoslovakia and came to Canada in 1898. He settled at Lethbridge where he worked in the mines for a short time. He then moved to Frank where he worked in the mines at Lille and in Blairmore. While at Frank he was one of the persons who escaped death in the Frank Slide of 1903. Mr. Kropinak then moved and took up a homestead north of Lundbreck where he carried on ranching operations until about 16 years ago when he retired to Blairmore. He had been at Rosehaven for the past two years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and of the Catholic faith. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in Calgary in 1937, and by a son, Mike of Lundbreck, eight years ago. Surviving are five sons, Frank and Steve of Blairmore, Albert and Thomas of Coleman, and John of Pincher Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Cerney of Blairmore and Mrs. E. K. Palmer of Seattle, Wash., and 17 grandchildren. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated in St. Anne's Catholic cemetery. Rev. Dennis Fleming of Coleman will officiate at the service. Hall's Funeral Service of Blairmore is in charge of arrangements.
