Mr. McKee, 33, died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning Saturday at his company, Mike's Plumbing and Heating. His brother said Mr. McKee was working in his shop with his car's engine running Saturday when he apparently became sleepy, sat down in the car and was overcome by the engine's fumes. "He stood 6-3, was 240 pounds. He loved to help anybody he could in the community, especially the kids' groups, through the Optimists' Junior Football and soccer," his brother said. "He enjoyed kids." Mr. McKee was born June 11, 1951, in Wichita to Dick and Marcella McKee. He was raised in Mulvane. Mr. McKee was named to the all-league football team every year that he attended Mulvane High School and was named to the all-state team in his senior year. He lettered in football, basketball and track. His records in the shot-put and discus still have not been broken by a Mulvane student. He graduated in 1969 and attended Emporia State University for a year and a half on a football scholarship. But he left to take a job at U.S. Supply, a plumbing supply firm in Wichita. He married Elnora Stunkel on July 8, 1972. He apprenticed with Simonsen Plumbing in Derby for two years and then started working for his father as a plumber. Two years ago, he bought out his father's business. Mr. McKee was a member of the Mulvane Optimists Club, Mulvane Masonic Lodge, Wichita Consistory, Midian Shrine, and Council Hill Christian Church. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for several years. When not working, Mr. McKee spent many hours hunting and fishing. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Mulvane High School auditorium. Survivors include, his wife, Elnora; a son, Todd; a daughter, Laura, of the home; parents, Dick and Marcella of Shell Knob, Mo.; brothers, Mitch, Merle, Monte, a sister, Marla, grandparents, Norris and Helen Knox, Dean and Lois McKee, all of Mulvane. A memorial has been established with the McKee Educational Fund, in care of the Mulvane State Bank. Edition: CITY EDITION
