He grew up there, along with his sisters, Rose (Harold) MacFarland, Mary Ann “Toots” (Joe) Kosorok and brother Joe (Vera) Naglich. Mike was the last surviving sibling, dying on Oct. 2, 2015, at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia; their son, Patrick (Shelley Habets and family); and many nieces and nephews. Mike entered the US Army in September 1942. He served as a medic (Medical Technician, Fourth Grade) with the 24th Medical Battalion, C Company, in the Philippines. He was awarded the Purple Heart and his first Bronze Star after the landing at Leyte in 1944. He received a second Bronze Star (with a “V” Device for valor) after volunteering to aid men injured when the enemy caused a landslide by blowing up ammunition stored in the Malinta Tunnel on Corregidor in February of 1945. (Then) Private First Class Naglich assisted the injured for six hours, while under fire from sporadic raids carried out by the enemy from inside the tunnel. After his discharge from the service, Mike attended the University of Montana, where he pursued his interest in chemistry. He graduated in June 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy. He married Virginia in September of that year. During the early years of his career, Mike worked as a pharmacist in Billings, Havre, Miles City and Red Lodge. He and Virginia purchased Price Pharmacy in Laurel in 1959, where they lived and raised their son until they sold the business and moved to Red Lodge in 1982. They worked side by side in Red Lodge also, managing the pharmacy at the Food Farm/Beartooth IGA until Mike’s retirement in 2005. Mike was a skilled golfer and was a charter member of the Laurel Golf Club, where he continued to play until a year before his death. He also enjoyed basketball, and was a member of the Bear Creek High School 1939 Class B State Championship team. His other hobbies included writing poems for special occasions, bowling and playing poker. Michael Naglich was tenacious of life; he survived childhood polio, being wounded in World War II, and numerous heart-related surgeries and complications in the last several years of his life. He will be remembered as a dedicated pharmacist and hard worker, a joker, an avid golfer and a devoted husband and father.
