Lubben, 55, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Michael Richard Lubben was born May 16, 1949, in Le Mars, the son of Kenneth E. and Eileen R. (Chamberlain) Lubben. Mike was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1967. On May 8, 1969, Mike was drafted in the United States Army and served his country until his honorable discharge on May 14, 1971. He served his country proudly, having completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon returning to Le Mars, Mike worked for Stoos Brothers Body Shop for several years. In 1990, Mike moved to Merrill and had worked for Taylor Auto in Brunsville, doing body work and later worked in the body shop at Charlie Zook Motors. He operated "The Shop" in Merrill for several years. Mike suffered a back injury which led to the closing of the Merrill shop. The last couple of years he worked part-time for Van's Sanitation. When Mike was not repairing cars, he enjoyed the opportunities to go fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed gardening. A longtime hobby for Mike was restoring his 1950 "Pan-Head" Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed riding and cherished the time riding with his daughter, Rachel. Mike was a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars. Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Eileen Lubben of Le Mars; a sister, Patricia Lubben of Le Mars; a daughter, Rachel Grace Lubben of Fruitvale, Colo.; aunts and uncles, Robert and Loretta Lubben of Le Mars, Alice Chamberlain of Le Mars, and Lloyd Chamberlain of Olympia, Wash.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and two aunts, Evelyn Rollins and Pauline Chamberlain. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, with graveside military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present after 6 p.m. Wednesday to greet friends followed by a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pallbearers will be Gary Roepke, Steve Sherlock, Dave Huls, Darwin Herbst, Herman Bremer, and Tom Leitru.
