Read More	Son of Leland & Laura Colburn Ellison Milan Charles Ellison, 82, of Waverly, Iowa died on April 22, 2006 in the Woodland Terrace Skilled Nursing Facility at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly of natural causes. Milan was born on June 30, 1923 at the family farm in rural Bremer County, the son of Leland "Bo" Ellison and Laura Colburn Ellison. He was baptized at Plainfield United Methodist Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bremer. Milan attended country school and Waverly High School, graduating in 1941. On September 20, 1942 he was united in marriage to Marlys Platte at trinity Lutheran Church in Bremer. For Milan, being a steward of the land was not a job, but a way of life. His way of life began at a young age, dating back to his father's untimely death when Milan was five. After Milan and Marlys' marriage, the couple farmed north of Bremer until 1961 when they moved to a farm in Western Douglas Township. Milan farmed this land until 1982 when he retired due to ill health. In 1990 the couple moved to Waverly and also had wintered in Florida for several years. Milan was a Farm Bureau member, served in many capacities as a former member of St. John Lutheran Church - Western Douglas, and was a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and reading, but cherished most of all the time he spent socializing with his friends and family. Milan is survived by his wife, Marlys, of Waverly; one daughter Sandi (Bill) Garner of Webster City, Iowa; one son Dr. Steve (Bonny) Ellison of Ottumwa, Iowa; six grandchildren, Beth Garner (Jeff Coghlan) of Aurora, Illinois, Michael (Roxanne Garner of Radcliffe, Iowa, Laura Lee (Wolfe) Tone of Chicago, Illinois, Jennifer (David) Carpenter of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mark (Melanie) Ellison of Ankeny, Iowa, and Becky (Aaron) Vandiver of Siera Vista, Arizona; five great-grandchildren, Amber and Garrett Garner, Katie, David and Ellie Carpenter, and one sister Margaret Maupin of Rockford, Iowa. He was preceeded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Bo and Duane Ellison. Funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly, burial in Harlington Cemtery in Waverly. Visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. One hour of visitation before the service at the church Monday.
