BARR was born on January 25, 1860, at Talleyrand, Iowa, and departed this life April 6, 1942, at his home in Oakdale at the age of eighty-two years, two months and twelve days. He was united in marriage to Emma L. BURHAM on June 1, 1882, at West Chester, Iowa. BARR was born on January 25, 1860, at Talleyrand, Iowa, and departed this life April 6, 1942, at his home in Oakdale at the age of eighty-two years, two months and twelve days. He was united in marriage to Emma L. BURHAM on June 1, 1882, at West Chester, Iowa. To this union seven children were given, two sons and five daughters, two daughters having been called in death leaving the following children, Elmer R. BARR of Madison, Wisc. Ira B. BARR of Ewing, Mrs. Maud CARTER, Gary, SD.; Mrs. Sylvia GRUNKE, Elgin; and Mrs. Gussie RETZLAFF, Neligh. All were present at the funeral. As a young man of eighteen he traveled with a wagon train to Idaho where he remained for three years, camping on the present site of Nampa, returning to Iowa in 1881. He accepted Christ and was converted in 1892 and three days later professed sanctification, never swerving from these experiences, he testified to them until his decease. He entered the ministry as an evangelist in 1893 and continued until 1899 when he took pastorate of a Weselyan Methodist church in West Union, Iowa. From there he came as pastor to Albaton, Iowa, where he remained for two years. He spent some months in Oklahoma in 1901 and in Minnesota in 1904. Moving to Elgin, Nebraska, in 1904 he worked at his trade as blacksmith and labored in the evangelistic field when possible: continuing there until 1917, except a year spent in Missouri in 1914. The years 1917-1919 were spent in California from where he returned to Elgin, Nebraska. In 1926 he moved to Newman Grove where he attended the Nazarene church and in 1930 pastored a church in Hubbard for that denomination. For the past five years he resided in Oakdale. His life has been deeply spiritual, always seeking to praise God rather than man. He leaves to mourn his departure: his wife; two sons and three daughters; one sister, Miss Clara BARR, Lincoln; twenty-one grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a host of friends that can hardly be numbered. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved. Funeral services were held in the Oakdale United Brethren church Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. A. W. Marts of Meadow Grove, with Rev. Otto Fink of Neligh and R. A. Reger assisting. Burial was made in the Oakdale cemetery.
