Services will be held at 2: p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Private burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Mildred was born Sept. 29, 1907, in Roseau, Minn., the daughter of Clarence and Anna (Nelson) Copus. She was raised and educated in Devils Lake and graduated from Devils Lake High School. She worked for Ottertail Power Co. and was active in Campfire girls. In the 1930s she came to Bismarck where she worked at Ace Hardware Store and the National Guard before starting her career in the medical field at Capital City Clinic. She married Dr. Robert W. Henderson, Jan. 1, 1950, in Bismarck. Mildred did volunteer work at City Nursing and was the treasurer of Missouri Slope Shrine Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years. She was a member of Bismarck Humane Society, Dakota Zoological Society and was recipient of the Gold Award in October 1981. She was a former member of the Red Cross Board. She was also a former Polio Foundation Chairman for six counties, and had served in various volunteer capacities for polio victims. A member of American Legion Auxiliary since 1953, she has held five state chairmanships, and was president of American Legion Auxiliary from 1958-1959, and again in 1968-1969. She has assisted in the educational expenses for three young men from the southern states. In addition to this, she supported two Philippine girls who lived in Bismarck during nurses' training from 1959-1959. Mr. Henderson died Jan. 18, 1971. She is survived by one cousin, Margaret Christianson, Devils Lake; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law; four grandchildren; her cousins, Joanne Cruse, Rabbi Cruse and Tanner Austere. She will be missed by neighbors, friends, the squirrels and birds. The Bismarck Tribune - January 20, 1994
