Description	:	MILDRED B. NILSEN was born December 24, 1908 at Spring Grove, MN to Bernhart and Marie (Stigen) Nilsen. She came with her parents and older sister Bertha to South Dakota in 1910. They homesteaded south of White Butte on the Grand River. Mildred attended the Burdick School and was confirmed at Rosebud Lutheran Church. Mildred was the second oldest of 12 children and did a lot of work outdoors. She loved riding horses, herding cattle, and working with the farm animals. Her husband Daniel passed away on August 16, 1968. She continued to live on the farm and at age 74, moved into Lemmon. She kept busy crocheting afgans, baking, working in her flower and vegetable garden. Due to her failing health, in 2004 she moved to Hillcrest Care Center in Hettinger. Mildred passed from this life there on May 28, 2006. Surviving family members include 1 daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Bill Nagel, Hettinger, ND; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Eugene Hoffman, Keith and Bev Hoffman, all of Lemmon, SD; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marlys Wright, Kent, WA; Violet McNew, Greeley, CO; Margaret Veal, Meadow, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Daniel, 1 son, George, 5 sisters, Bertha Lovelett; Nora Hoffman; Alpha DeNomme; Gladys O'Keefe; Bernice Schober; 3 brothers, Alvin, Melvin, and Milo Nilsen. Burial in Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.
