Mildred was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Augusta, the third of four children born to Marshall and Clementine (LaPier) Swayze. (Swayze) Labuda, 89, of Big Sandy, died of natural causes Wednesday Sept 10, 2008 at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre. Burial in Big Sandy Cemetery. Mildred was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Augusta, the third of four children born to Marshall and Clementine (LaPier) Swayze. She was raised and attended school in Augusta, along with working part time for Art Net. After she finished her schooling, she moved to Great Falls and worked for Dr. Richardson. Mildred married Sonny Damon and together they had two children, Ida and Joanne. They later divorced. Our mother had so many jobs in Great Falls, but one that she spoke about often was at the pizza parlor owned by Pete and Jean Sciuchette. It was there that she met John Labuda, and they were married in 1948. While working for Mike Labuda and Art McKleash, they bought the homestead 10 miles southeast of Big Sandy. Together they had five children: Judy, Andy, Bill, Dolly and Roger. In 1967, after the death of John's brother Frank, four more children, Frank, Dave, Diane, and Chuck, were added to the family. Milly was a homemaker, caring for her children, grandchildren and animals and cooking for brandings. Everyone loved her chocolate cake. She enjoyed taking the children to the river to see the ducks and geese and telling stories about taking care of cows on horseback in Augusta. Survivors include her daughters, Joanne (Armando) Cuevas of Rigby, Idaho, and Dolly (Steve) Peterson of Manan, Idaho; a son, Andy (Peggy) Labuda of Big Sandy; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Mary Komeotus of Big Sandy. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Labuda; daughters Ida Turkla and Judy Labuda; sons Bill Labuda and Roger Labuda; a grandson, Jon Cuevas; four sisters and three brothers.
