She was born on February 4, 1918 in Kosciusko County, IN the daughter of the late Marshall Beigh and the late Rena (Metzger) Beigh. Mildred was a teacher of elementary pupils in Porter County for 28 years, and retired in 1986 from Valparaiso Community Schools. She was born on February 4, 1918 in Kosciusko County, IN the daughter of the late Marshall Beigh and the late Rena (Metzger) Beigh. Mildred was a teacher of elementary pupils in Porter County for 28 years, and retired in 1986 from Valparaiso Community Schools. She was a member of West Eel River Church of the Brethren in Silver Lake, IN. She married Wayne E. Swihart on September 14, 1940, who survives. Also surviving are her sons: Thomas (Sharon) Swihart of Valparaiso, IN and David Swihart of Leesburg, IN; daughters: Ann (Jack) Swihart Butts of Naples, FL and Nancy (Martin) Swihart McClintock of St. Louis, MO; sisters: Ines Tracy of North Manchester, IN, and Mrs. Gene (Marcile) Ranstead of Wabash, IN; 11 grandchildren: Jason Butts, Kevin Butts, Lisa Swihart, Mandy Swihart, Rob Swihart, Christa Swihart, Michael Swihart, Jamie Swihart, Ryan McClintock, Jef McClintock, and Amy McClintock and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eugene Beigh and one sister, Marjorie Hettler. Funeral services will be held on March 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, IN with Rev. Paul Tinkel officiating. Calling hours will take place one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial at Lakeview Cemetery in Silver Lake, IN. Memorials may be sent to West Eel River Church of the Brethren, 799 W. State Road 14 in Silver Lake, IN 46982 or Alzheimer's Association , 50 E. 91st St. Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Mildred attended Maple Grove School in Silver Lake, IN and graduated Silver Lake High School in 1936. She did her undergraduate studies at Manchester College and Valparaiso University with a BS degree in elementary education and an MA degree in Liberal Studies, and specialist degree in reading. She, along with her husband, served as student pastor at Congregational Christian in Ohio, Burlington Brethren, TIOSA and Mexico Brethren, Milford Brethren, Muncie Brethren, and Mishawaka Brethren, retiring in 1986. Mildred began church service as pianist with West Eel River Church of the Brethren. She was a member of Porter Co. Retired Teacher's Association and State of Indiana Retired Teacher's Association.
