Carpenter, 75, who passed away June 19, at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. James Mort officiated at the services. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Mildred E. Nowles, eldest daughter of Lela Blanche Baker Nowles and Ernest Nowles, was born on May 5, 1905, in Donniphan [Doniphan] County, Kansas. Her early childhood was spent at Forrest City, Missouri, and Amity Community near Holyoke. She later attended nursing school in Missouri. At an early age she was baptized and became a member of the First Christian Church at Holyoke. She was united in marriage to Arthur L. Carpenter on May 22, 1946, at St. Francis, Kansas. Their married life was spent in Holyoke and the surrounding area. Mildred was a charter member of the F.G.T. Club and spent many hours working for the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Lowell Nowles & Gerald McBee, who died as small children, Truman and Woodrow McBee; one infant son, Teddy Lee; and one granddaughter, Paula Mae Lappart. She is survived by her husband, Arthur; two children, Mrs. Paul (Lillian) Lappart, Holyoke, and Buddy Ashlock and his wife Jimmie, St. Joseph, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Karrol Jean Borland, John Anton Lappart, Elizabeth Gail Kelly, Thomas Frances Ashlock, Jerry Lee Ashlock, Gregory Ashlock, Kenneth Ashlock, and Ginger Ann Ashlock; six great grandchildren, Michael, DeeAnn, Shawn and Cindy Borland, Brian and Chris Kelly; four sisters, Viva Rush, Maxine Wright, Garnet Sprague, Maryellen Race, and many other relatives and friends. Attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ashlock and Ginger, St. Joseph, Missouri; Maxine Wright, Omaha, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Swede Sprague, Loveland; Mr. and Mrs. Arnie Kinsey, Denver; Fred Burrier, Mr. and Mrs. Claus Strohm, Deertrail; Mrs. Earl Schaeffer, Sr., Dwaine and Jr. Schaeffer, LaSalle; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Backes and family, Castle Rock; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Mooney, Haxtun; Romona Vineyard and sons, Darren and Tim, Sterling; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Long, Burlington; Vicki and husband, Loveland; Mrs. Cornelius Johnson, Imperial, Nebraska and Mrs. Fred Harmon, Champion, Nebraska.
