Howard, 51, of 501 West Park avenue, died at the Ottumwa hospital at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Howard, wife of Principal Andrew G. Howard of Lincoln school, has been teaching at Franklin junior high school since they came to Ottumwa from Richland in 1949. She was taken critically ill at Thanksgiving time, and has been hospitalized much of the time since. She was born October 3, 1905, in Van Burien county, the daughter of James W. and Alice Rhynas. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Miss Joyce Howard who teaches in Iowa City, and a son, William B. Howard, at home. A sister, Mrs. Robert Harness of Birmingham and her father who lives in Stockport also survives. The body will be taken from the Jay funeral home to the First Methodist church at 2 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Paull Hann, D.D. pastor, will be in charge. Burial will be in Ottumwa cemetery. Pallbearers will be W. M. Hedges, R.O. Wright, Glen James, Orville Anderson, Logan Zahn, and Willis Ahrans. The family requests that in lieu of flowers those who wish to do may contribute to a memorial fund to furnish a room in the new wing at Ottumwa hospital, in memory of Mrs. Howard.
