Mildred Eileen (Schmidt) Kesterson, daughter of Arnold and Gladys (Hawkins) Schmidt, was born March 13, 1930 at Lotts Creek, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls at the age of 78 years. She received her education in Iowa and when she was a young woman her family moved to the Bruce, South Dakota area. After her marriage to Arnold Dwayne Williams they lived in Sioux Falls and then moved to Maryland before returning to South Dakota where they settled in Brookings. During those years Mildred worked as a waitress, being employed by the Elks Club in both Brookings and Sioux Falls. She was married to Bronson Kesterson in the 1960’s. Mildred retired in 1990 and moved to Hills, Minnesota. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, needlepoint and raised Tropical Fish and Parakeets. Mildred is survived by three daughters, Linda of Newberg, OR, Vernita of Washington state, Tamme of Pipestone, MN; eight grandchildren including Michelle of Sioux Falls, Jeremy of Pipestone, Joseph of Fargo, ND, Jesse of Shakopee, MN; six great grandchildren including Tayla and Tracey of Sioux Falls; seven brothers and sisters, Alvin (Gerry) of White, SD, Naomi of Volga, SD, Arnold Jr. "Bud" (Marilyn) of Belle Fourche, SD, Patricia of Washington, Elsie (Jim) of Arizona, Katherine "Kitty" (Bob) of South Carolina, Dean (Vera) of Arlington, SD; her caregiver, Christina of Sioux Falls; her dog Jackie Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Melvin Williams, her parents, a sister Carol and two brothers-in-law, Eldon and Al.
