For the next 10 years, Mildred worked as a cook at Horn Memorial Hospital, then provided child care in her home for several years. She returned to cooking at the Tip Top Cafe until her retirement. In her earlier years, she helped with the Congregate Meals program. Survivors include 5 children, Tom of Ida Grove; Roger of Vail; Elizabeth Hansen and her husband Joe of Winterset; LeRoy "Bud" of Ida Grove, and Terry Jepsen of Mason City; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 brothers and their wives, William & Sue Hanks of Scranton; Dennis & Rhonda Hanks of Lake City; a sister and husband Lulu & Glenn Martinson of Ida Grove; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harley in 1978; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Kennedy and Lucille Strom.
