Mildred Esther Moser was born February 26, 1937, in Corson County near McIntosh, South Dakota to William and Justina (Schweigert) Moser. She attended country school and graduated from McIntosh High School, where she was the homecoming queen. Following graduation she worked from 1955-1956 as a bookkeeper in the Bank of Lemmon in Lemmon, South Dakota. Mildred worked at various A.S.C.S county offices including the Corson County office in McIntosh from 1956-1961, the Walworth County office in Selby from 1961-1964, and at the Brookings County office from 1965-1966. Mildred married Lloyd Smith on August 27, 1961, at McIntosh. They moved to Huron in 1966 where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Circle, Huron Lioness Club, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Mildred held offices in Circle, Lioness, and NARFE. She moved to SunQuest Village in January 2009, and became a resident of SunQuest Healthcare Center in January 2009. Mildred's grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd on November 8, 1991; her parents; and her sister Edna Scholl. Grateful for having shared her life are her children Leigh Smith, of Huron, and Bryan (Teresa) Smith, of Huron; three grandchildren, Emma, Hannah, and William, of Huron; six sisters, Lydia Gehring, of Selby, Helen Schulz, of Mobridge, Irene (Johnnie) Heinrich, of Elk Grove, CA. Violet Bronson, of Sioux Falls, Clara Stoecker, of Mobridge, and Shirley (Loven) Stoecker, of Onaka; and two brothers, Milbert (Darlene) Moser, of Rupert, Idaho, and Edwin Moser, of Woodburn, OR.
