Mildred was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Swea City, Iowa, to Odin and Mae Anderson. Her sister, Olga, was 2 years old. Her youngest sister died shortly after birth from the great flu epidemic of 1918. The Andersons lived together with their extended family, including grandparents and children on the family farm. In 1924, the Andersons moved to Waubun, Minn., to an 80-acre farm. Mildred helped her father work the farm as any boy would in those days. Mildred graduated high school in Waubun and then in 1934 took a job at a hotel in Crookston, Minn., which she described as more difficult than farm work. She met Carl O. Goff in 1931, the brother of the Andersons' next door neighbor and they were married in 1934. They moved to Detroit Lakes, Minn., during the Great Depression. In the next 18 years, they had 9 children and moved around the U.S., first in California, Minnesota, Arkansas, Oregon, Minnesota, then finally settled in Washington state, where Carl worked various jobs including orchard work and farming. In the late 1950s, Mildred and Carl took over running Rando Manor, Okanogan County's home for displaced children. To this day, there are many adults in Okanogan County who refer to Mildred as "Mom" from that time. After a few years, they moved to Omak and with most of her children having left the nest, Mildred decided she didn't have enough to keep her busy, so she got her first driver's license at age 55. She went to work at what was known then as Tillicum House, now Valley Care Center in Okanogan. From there, she worked for the state of Washington as a homemaker helping needy families with household chores, child care concerns and anything else she was needed for. Mildred retired at 65. This position was very rewarding for her and she enjoyed helping others. After she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, she resided at Valley Care Center for five years until she moved into her daughter, Carol's, home in Okanogan where she lived until her death. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl; and her youngest son, David S. Goff; also her grandsons, Duane Mustard and Jason Tracy. She is survived by eight of her children, Catherine M. Goff of Yakima, Donald C. Goff of Omak, Alan E. Goff of Conconully, Theodore P. Goff of Marysville, Rosemary I. Goff of Omak, Esther A. Goff of Puyallup, Rebecca D. McNeese of Okanogan and Carol J. Armstrong of Okanogan; along with 19 grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Omak City Cemetery. child: David Samuel Goff b: 4 Dec 1952 d: 2 Feb 2002
