Mildred Irene (Hobson) Darr, 92, was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Venus, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Grosse) Hobson. She died Jan. 18, 2017, at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She took normal training in high school and got her teaching certificate in 1942. She taught in rural schools for four years. She left teaching to marry Howard E. Darr on March 1, 1946, in Creighton, Neb. They farmed in Nebraska until 1956 when they moved to California. They returned in 1960 to Nebraska, where she owned and operated Westside Café in Verdigre, Neb. In 1973 they moved to Minnesota, where she managed the kitchen at a turkey processing plant. In 1978 they moved to Urbana, where they owned and operated the Maple Heights Motel until their retirement. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, fishing, traveling and spending time with her family. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; and one sister, Frances Hughes. Survivors include her three sons: Dennis and wife, Bonnie Darr, Flagstaff, Ariz., Michael Darr and Bradford Trenary, Vashon, Wash., and Warren and wife, Lorie Darr, Bellevue, Wash; one daughter, Pamela and husband, Gary Lindsey, Russellville; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and other family members and friends who will all truly miss her.
