Read More	Mildred "Millie" Spicher Eickhoff was born on the family homestead Northwest of Roundup, Mont., near Wheaton, on Aug. 28, 1916, to William and Elizabeth Harvey Spicher. With the spirit of a true pioneer it was her intention to live on the ranch until her death. However, the toll of passing years and the frailty which sometimes accompanies aging disrupted that lifelong plan. Sadly, Millie passed away at Valle Vista Manor in Lewistown on Sept. 3, 2013. Millie lost her mother, Elizabeth, when she was a mere 3 years old. So Millie and her sister, Elizabeth, were raised by their father, William, with the assistance of a housekeeper. Growing up, Millie was always more interested in helping her dad with the homestead rather than being stuck in the house. Her love of the outdoors helped lay the foundation that led to a long and successful life building up a fine ranch. Millie graduated from Roundup in 1935, after boarding with families in town to complete her education. On June 22, 1935, Millie married her true love and life companion, Roy Eickhoff. Their journey together endured for close to six decades ending with Roy's death in 1995. In 1937 Roy and Mille began ranching on South Fork of Flatwillow Creek with, as the legend goes, only three cows and a bull. Whenever possible they added more land to the ranch, never spending more than they made. Millie played a significant and active role in building the family ranch. Mom always said, "We need more grass," and was always ready to buy. Through the years as they acquired more land closer to Grass Range, the family made a final move to Elk Creek. In 1983, Roy suffered a stroke, but this did not diminish the pioneer spirit. Millie cared for Roy and was still able to help on the ranch. Elk Creek is where she lived the remainder of her ranch years. Family was always very important to Millie. Losing her mother at such a young age reinforced the desire to have her family nearby. It was her joy getting to see a fifth generation of family growing up on the ranch that was so dear to her. Her fondest wish would have been for all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to have grown up on the ranch and remained there. She always had a special love of nature, all animals, especially her "ponies." Growing African violets and a garden was one of her pastimes. She enjoyed solitaire, crib and an occasional game of dominos with the grandkids. She watched her ranch legacy out the window of her home for many years. Millie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elizabeth (Marvin) Geise; husband, Roy; son, Kenny; and daughter, Patti Vlastelic. Millie is survived by her sons, Wayne (Ginger) Eickhoff and Lyle (EDee) Eickhoff; daughter, Meri Mainwaring; son-in-law, Mike (Deb) Vlastelic, and son-in-law, Earl Mainwaring; and dear friend, Georgia Delaney. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Ken (Brenda) Eickhoff, Allyn (Tiffani) Eickhoff, Darcy (Chris) Aspinall, Ross (Kim) Eickhoff, JoDee (Troy) Hess, Jamie (Trent) Hess, Beth Mainwaring (Joe Talcott) and Clint (Emily) Mainwaring; and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Villa and Valle Vista Manor staff for their excellent and compassionate care of Millie for the past three years. Funeral Services for Millie will be held at the Creel Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and prior to the service on Monday. Interment will take place at the Lewistown City Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Grass Range Foundation, 401 Second Ave. S., #208, Lewistown, MT 59457, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
