Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, October 21, at the Isburg Funeral Chapel with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm. Services will be at 10:00 am Friday, October 22 at the Ft. Pierre Congregational Church with Burial at the Scotty Philip Cemetery Mildred Elizabeth Kirley was born in a private residence at Fort Pierre, S.D. on March 03, 1918, to Charles and Mabel Kirley of Orton Flat, Stanley County, S.D. She grew up there and attended the Orton School for eight years. Her parents then moved to town, Fort Pierre, S.D., where she graduated from Fort Pierre High School. Following graduation in 1940 she married John W. Tibbs and they moved to Eagle Butte, S.D. where he was employed by the Diamond A Cattle Company. Mildred lived with Johnny in various "cow camps" and cooked for the cowboys. They soon learned what a wonderful cook she was and looked forward to her daily meals. They returned to Fort Pierre and lived there the rest of their lives except for a year and a half when they returned to Eagle Butte for a short time to work for Holloway Brothers. Upon their return to Fort Pierre, Mildred accepted a position at the Fort Pierre National Bank working with Rex Terry for several years. She then became Office Manager for L.S. Hanson at the Fort Pierre Livestock Auction. In 1958 she was elected as Stanley County Treasurer, a position she held for ten years, then was elected Register of Deeds for eight years. Following retirement from the Register of Deeds Office she served part time as the County Food Stamp Officer. She is survived by her son, Jerald "Jerry", Fort Pierre, and one grandson, Brian (Amy) Billings, Mt., great grandson Skyler, great granddaughter Izabella, and two step-great grandsons, Colin and Tyler, all of Billings, Mt., and her sister Alice Jo (Jim) Jones, Del Rapids, S.D., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970, her parents, one brother, Lytle Kirley, Kennewick, Wa., three sisters, Marie (Harold) Stocks, Huron, S.D., Dorothy (Forest) Mitchell, Kadoka, S.D., Charlene (Don) Davis, Kennewick, Wa. Mildred was a member of the Fort Pierre Congregational Church for over 59 years, joining on March 22, 1951. She was a Charter Member of the Fort Pierre Senior Citizens, joining in September 1979, and an Honorary Member of the Pierre Area Senior Citizens Center. The family suggests memorials to the Fort Pierre Congregational Church accessibility fund.
