Description	:	Mildred L. Johannes, 93, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Mory's Haven in Columbus. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 22, 10:30 AM at St John's Lutheran Church, 14 miles north, with Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 AM. Memorials are suggested to family choice. Mildred was born August 20, 1918, in Platte County, Nebraska, to Gerhard and Frieda (Mueller) Kapels. She attended St John's Lutheran school. On April 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Eugene A. Johannes at St John's church. Eugene was in the Army so they lived in El Paso until his discharge. The couple returned to Platte County where they made their home on the farm. Mildred was a life member of St John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, serving as secretary and treasurer. She also served as vice president of the Women's Missionary Association and she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included doing jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, making quilts for her grandchildren and taking care of her flowers.
