Description	:	Mildred L. Murphy, age 94, of Glouster died early Monday morning, Dec. 25, 2006 at her home. Born July 25, 1912 in Athens she was the daughter of the late Dallas M. & Myrtle M. Treace Murphy. A graduate of Athens High School, she attended Ohio University receiving a B.S. in Education in 1934. She received a Master of Arts and Fine Arts in Education in 1941 from Columbia University. She taught Art and was Art supervisor of Athens City Schools from 1934 to 1969. Born July 25, 1912 in Athens she was the daughter of the late Dallas M. & Myrtle M. Treace Murphy. A graduate of Athens High School, she attended Ohio University receiving a B.S. in Education in 1934. She received a Master of Arts and Fine Arts in Education in 1941 from Columbia University. She taught Art and was Art supervisor of Athens City Schools from 1934 to 1969. In addition to teaching, she was always active in oil painting. She was also a skilled craftsman in silver jewelry, wood carving and restoration of paintings and antiques. Mildred was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church of Glouster and the Catholic Women’s Club, National and Ohio Retired Teacher’s Association, Delta Phi Delta honorary art fraternity, and a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She is survived by three nieces- Joanne (Bruce) Douglas of Rocky River, Linda Rowan of Columbus, Indiana, Patricia Rivera of Missoula, Montana; great nieces and nephews- Lori Rowan of Columbus, Indiana, Vicki (Steve) Zeller of Columbus, Indiana, Kati Knotts of Columbus, Indiana, Aron (Susan) Douglas of Bay Village, Ryan (Angela) Douglas of Westlake, John Eckenfels of Gary, Indiana, and Richard Rivera of Chicago, Illinois; and five great-great nephews and two great-great nieces. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Addie Murphy and two brothers- Vercoe and Harold Murphy. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 12:00 Noon at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Glouster with Father John Mucha as celebrant. Burial will be in West Union St. Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call Thursday 2-4 PM at the Holy Cross Catholic Church where the Vigil for the Deceased will be held Thursday 2:30 PM. Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Memorials may be made to Trimble Local Textbook & Supplies Foundation, c/o Sandy Gyure, P.O. Box 187, Glouster 45732. Memorial presented and maintained in conjunction with Murphy Nation, a multi-generational family history gateway dedicated to celebrating, documenting, preserving and providing increased awareness and access for the Murphy family pioneers of Morgan County, Ohio and their descendants and families.
